KRAKOW    |   2019    |   KRAKOW BIENNALE COMPETITION    |   MBA KRAKOW

Within the scope of MBA Krakow Biennale 2019 theme “Connections – The Town and The River” the aim of the study is to connect the river Vistula with the old city of Krakow by bringing new focal points to the town, nearer to the river with new functions. So as well as the main square Rynek, the old town will have other important gathering spaces which will attract people. To allow people interact with these new squares we are also suggesting two new towers representing each new public space, however locating them within the old town rather than within the new public spaces, at two main road junctions / gathering points on the main route which connects Rynek and the Wawel Castle. Those towers are high enough -but not as high as the historical landmark towers- to attract people. They are two big periscopes with large screens at street level, showing the visitors and inhabitants what they will encounter on the riverbanks. Their top parts clearly orientated to these zones, telling people to which direction to walk. Periscopes are also visible from the riverbanks, inviting people to the town centre, by providing mutual signs for the town and river.
